The Osaka/Kobe-based Hanshin Tigers are probably the second most popular baseball team in Japan - after the Tokyo-based Yomiuri Giants. It's been 70 years since the team was established and, to commemorate the occasion, Joshin, TurboLinux and Sotec have teamed up to produce this one of a kind notebook PC. Only serious fans need apply...

Joshin, TurboLinux and Sotec have announced they will release the "Tigers PC", a notebook PC officially approved by the Hanshin Tigers baseball team. It will be priced at 139,800 yen and will be a Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) and Turbolinux dual-boot system.

Joshin, who are a Hanshin Tigers sponsor, planned the notebook to mark the Hanshin Tigers' 70th anniversary. Pre-orders will be accepted from 10 March via the Joshin website and sales will begin from 26 March at Joshin, Bit-One and J&P stores Japan-wide. 1000 units will be produced in total.

The notebook PC is based on the Sotec Alfina AL7190C and is customised with a Tigers uniform image on the top panel and a 70th anniversary logo on the palmrest. In addition, when the laptop is booted into TurboLinux, the desktop design has a Hanshin Tigers theme.



Hardware specifications include a Mobile Athlon XP-M 1900+(1.467GHz) CPU, VIA ProSavageDDR KN400+VT8235CE chipset, 256MB RAM (Max 640MB), 30GB HDD, 12.1" XGA (1024x768) LCD and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.

Interfaces include USB2.0 x 3, SD/MMC/MS Duo slot, Type2 PC Card slot, D-Sub15 (VGA) connector, Ethernet and modem.

Software installed with TurboLinux Home Edition includes the Mozilla Internet Suite, GIMP image editing software, OpenOffice and PowerDVD Linux edition.

The life of the included Lithium-Ion battery is approximately 2.8 - 3.2 hours. Dimensions of the laptop are 283.4 x 251 x 29.5-36.4 mm and its weight is approximately 2 kg.
