Three new CD receivers from Panasonic - two of which aren't very interesting. The top-end "CD-C7301D", however, makes up for the mediocrity of the other two with a variable colour display (choose from one of 9,261 possibilities) and the ability to customise the display's background, startup and shutdown screens.

Panasonic will release three new 1DIN-size car CD receivers on 10 April. The top-end "CD-C7301D" with features that include a variable colour display will be priced at 33,600 yen, the MOS-FET amp-equipped "CQ-C1301D" at 18,900 yen and the low-end "CD-C1101D"at 14,700 yen.
The main feature of the top-end "CQ-C7301D" is its variable colour display which can be illuminated in one of 9,261 possible patterns. The brightness of the display's RGB channels can be independently adjusted from 0 to 100% (in 5% steps) to create any desired colour.
In addition, the receiver's display also supports customisation. Using software downloadable from the product's website, users will be able to create and edit animations and images for use on the display's background, startup and shutdown screens. Users will also be able to upload animation and image data to the website for download by other users. Transfer of data to the CD receiver will be via CD-R/RW.
The CD drive supports playback of MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-R/RW. The internal MOS-FET amp is rated at 20W x 4ch output. The installed SQ (Sound Quality) Equalizer has preset settings for FLAT, POP, VOCAL, JAZZ, ROCK and CLUB. With the exception of FLAT, frequency levels (7 bands) can be adjusted and saved by the user for each setting.
The receiver's large rotary volume control was chosen for its aesthetic appeal and usability. An analog input is also supplied, allowing portable music players to be connected.
