Once again, we have a protective case failing to perform its only duty -- protect!

Victim:
Kawakami of Tokyo

Scene of Accident:
My parent's house

Broken Item:
iRiver iHP-120

Details of Accident:
An accident occurred while at my parent's house during a three day weekend while helping them out with the cleaning. This day, I put my main unit in its protective cover and inner-ear earphones in a pouch on my hip attached at my belt; just like always. Interesting, because I always do the same thing while jogging, exposing the hard drive to some rather rigorous conditions. However, the shocks caused by cleaning were too much for the LCD to take, rather than the hard drive. Even saying that, however, is sort of wrong -- the class portion of the LCD didn't even break; it appears the damage is only internal.

Damage Amount:
Because I had a 6 month extension on my warranty, it should be covered (even though it's been a year). I'm going to try negotiations with the support center to see if they can repair it for free.

More from the Contributor:
I can still use the LCD remote to operate the device. I wonder if you can go to the support center on the weekends...

Not of the same magnitude, but my iRiver iHP-120's hand remote died recently. Well, more like it 'caught a very debilitating illness and the prognosis looks bad.' It still functioned and I could operate the main unit fine, but the controller's LCD screen just failed to show anything beyond a single vertical line. Your situation reminded me since I just received the replacement remote I bought, but here is what struck me - there was no apparent external damage to the case, cable, or remote itself. And if I had damaged the remote to the point where it no longer displayed anything, why did it still work at all?
