Protective cases don't always do their jobs, as this week's contributor found out while skiing with his digital camera.

Victim:
Mitani of Kanagawa Prefecture
Scene of Accident:
Myoukou Plateau Ski Slope in Niigata Prefecture
Broken Item:
Konica Minolta DiMAGE Xt
Details of Accident:
I wanted to take pictures while skiing, so I took my digital camera. After slipping a bunch of times, I decided to take a picture of a snow covered mountain...only to discover that the LCD didn't come on. When I looked, oh shit, it was broken. You could say I fell down plenty of times, but the thing is, I thought the camera would be alright because it was in a protective case. Big mistake!
Damage Amount:
I bought this a year ago for 30,000 yen. I'm going to buy a new one.
More from the Contributor:
This is my the first digital camera I bought, and I liked the design; it's a shame to lose something so precious. I took about 1,000 pictures with it, so it certainly worked well for me.
