Sharp's yearly update to their laptop with a 3D display comes in the form of being able to now being able to watch DVDs in 3D, and enhanced specifications. I've been quite anxious to see if Sharp's 3D display technology is actually worth the 360,000 yen price tag.

Sharp Corporation will release the "Mebius PC-AL3DH," a notebook PC with a 15" 3D LCD capable of displaying XGA resolutions, on March 25th. The price is Open Price, but it should really cost around 360,000 yen. The OS is Windows XP Professional (SP2).

This notebook has a special 3D supporting display that allows for the enjoyment of 3D video without the use of special glasses. 2D/3D display modes can be chosen with the flick of a switch. It includes software called "TriDef DVD Player" which allows for the realtime pseudo-3D display of conventional DVDs, as well as "NVIDIA 3D Stereo" to display games supporting Direct3D/OpenGL in 3D.

Major specifications include a Pentium M 750 (1.86 GHz) CPU, 1GB of memory (DDR2-533, max 2GB), 80GB hard drive, Intel 915PM chipset, GeForce Go 6600 (128MB), a DVD Super Multi Drive (+R DL support), and so on.

Available interfaces are a Type2 PC Card slot, Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 1394 (4-pin), USB 2.0, D-Sub 15 pin, modem, etc..

The battery life is about 1.7 hours. The body size is 326 x 273 x 32.2 ~ 41.5mm (W x D x H), and the weight is about 3.5kg.
