A new portable digital audio player from NHJ, with 256MB of internal memory and a SD card slot. It also has five "panels" so you can customize the look of the player to suit your headphones, shoes, or whatever it is that you'd like it to match.

NHJ Corporation will release the "v@mp VP-525D," a portable MP3/WMA player with a SD card slot and 5 changeable panels, o­n February 10th. While listed at open price, the estimated retail price is around 12,800 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP, as well as Mac OS 9.2 ~ X.

This is a MP3/WMA player featuring 256MB of flash memory. It is also equipped with an SD card slot, and cards as large as 512MB can be used. Supported playback bitrates are 16 ~ 320kbps for MP3, and 64 ~ 192kbps for WMA.

It also furnishes a line-in port, and can encode to the MP3 format. Recrding bitrates can be chosen from either 16, 64, 128, or 192kbps. It also features a microphone and FM tuner, and while it can be used as a voice recorder, the recording format is proprietary.

A 5-mode preset equalizer offers the following audio settings: normal, pop, rock, jazz, and classic. Connection with a PC is done by USB 1.1.

Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and other languages are supported o­n the 96 x 32 dot backlit LCD, with can display ID3 tags. Also included are 5 differently colored panels: green, blue, orange, pink, and red. By putting them o­n the player, it can be matched with certain fashions or your feelings.

Power comes from a single AAA battery, capable of about 12 hours of consistent playback. The external dimensions are 48 x 58 x 20mm (W x D x T), and it weighs about 35g without a battery.
