I don't know who in their right mind would pay 59,800 yen for a product from NHJ, but they've got a new video camera out that features an internal 2GB hard drive. Given the camera's other specifications, I personally think there's a typo. No way is this camera worth even close to 59,800 yen.

As an interesting "NHJ-esque" feature, the camera doubles as a removable hard drive. More details inside.

NHJ Corporation will release the "D'Zign DV-5" MPEG-4 video camera with a 2GB hard drive, in early February. It is Open Price, but indicators suggest it should cost around 59,800 yen.

This MPEG-4 video camera with a 1/2.7 type 3.2MP CCD supports MPEG-4 recording up to 640 x 480 dots. It has a fixed lens, with a digital zoom of 2x (when using 640 x 480) and 4x (when using 320 x 240). Recording resolutions of MPEG-4 video are 640 x 480, and 320 x 240. 640 x 480 features three recording modes: Fine (30fps), Normal (30fps), and Economy (20fps). 320 x 240 features two recording modes: Fine (30fps) and Normal (20fps).

The camera supports recording of still images in the JPEG format, up to a maximum of 2048 x 1536 dots. In addition, it supports 1024 x 768, or even 2400 x 1800 with use of software-based interpolation. Available recording settings include ISO sensitivity settings, white balance, and black&white and sepia effect modes. It also features an LED flashlight.

Voice recorder functionality is also on the camera, and it records in the WAV format. Additionally, it can play MP3 files, and supported bitrates are from 32kbps to 320 kbps. These can be listened to by using either the AV/earphone output jack, or the camera's internal speaker.

On the camera is a 2" TFT LCD, which can not only display still images and thumbnails, but also features three brightness settings. Connection with a PC is done using USB 2.0. Supported operating systems include Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP, as well as Mac OS 9.2 and above, and finally Mac OS X.

A proprietary lithium ion battery supplies the camera with power, and it supports about 90 minutes of recording video, or about 110 minutes of still images. When playing MP3 files, it is 180 minutes (LCD off, using earphones) or 100 minutes (using speakers). The camera's body measures 73 x 35 x 82mm (W x D x H), and it weighs roughly 147g.
