NEC has a new line of compact tower PCs intended for business users, equipped with the Intel 915GV chipset.

So what's to like? The 66mm form factor.

Nippon Electric Corporation (NEC) announced on the 20th the "MY28V/H-F" and "MY25X/H-F" compact tower-type desktop PCs intended for business use. Shipments begin on January 27th.

Both models announced are business-oriented space-saving desktop PCs that use the Intel 915GV Express chipset. The width has been reduced by 25% versus the company's previous space-saving desktop PC products, and has achieved a 66mm thickness. Like older models, these support customization of BTO, memory, HD, optical drive, and whether or not to feature a floppy drive, serial port, parallel port, and other legacy device options.

The CPU used in each machine is, for the MY28V/H-F, a Pentium 4 520J (2.80GHz) with Hyperthreading support, and for the MY25X/H-F, a Celeron D 325J (2.53GHz). Both CPUs support the Execute Disable Bit (XD bit) funtion, which through cooperation with Windows XP SP2, can protect against the activities of virii and worms that cause buffer overrun problems.

One sample configuration, at the lowest end, is a MY28V/H-F with 256MB of memory, 40GB SATA hard drive, CD-ROM, and Windows XP Professional SP2 as an OS -- for 105,000 yen.
