As you've surely already noticed, TechJapan has recently been having some problems associated with high traffic/server load.
If you enjoy the content here, please take a moment to send a buck or two to help cover costs associated with our hosting. Payments are accepted via PayPal (meaning, easy to think it's not real money), and go directly to our hosting provider -- you can rest assured that we're not pocketing the cash for beer (though we certainly accept these sorts of donations too). Simply click on the button below, and help make things around here go a bit more smoothly.

Have you considered running ads or having an affiliate program with sites that specialize in importing Japanese consumer electronics? Lik-sang, that one that imports super-portable laptops, etc... |

I hate banner ads, with a vengence. The only ads you'll ever see here on TechJapan are those that are part of the AdSense program (at the left). And in regards to affiliate programs, yes, I've looked into it. Lik-Sang does mainly games (which we don't really cover, except for the PSP because of the functionality it offers), and I think you're referring to Dynamism. Dynamism, as far as I know, doesn't have an affiliate program. There's another enormous reason we won't be doing any affiliate programs, but I can't reveal it at this time. Just stick around for the next couple months, and it'll be evident. |

Do you have the $9.99 - 120GB/mo plan? What kind of traffic do you have? |

Anonymous - that's the plan we're on. However, bandwidth's not the problem, it's CPU usage. The shared machine we are hosted on can only do about 500 cpu-minutes a day and we're using 50-90 at the moment (Note: a cpu-minute isn't equivalent to an actual minute of cpu usage). If we go over 100 cpu-minutes, our account may be restricted by Dreamhost - something we'd obviously like to avoid. Ideally, we'd like to go to dedicated hosting on our own server if we can cover the costs somehow. |
