Do you often find yourself running across bipedal robots supporting Bluetooth, and think to youself, "damn, I wish I could control that with my Bluetooth mobile phone?" I know I do.

Well, KDDI finally has an answer for us. It's called the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller." More details inside.

KDDI and IB have developed the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller," a BREW appli that can control a robot from a Bluetooth supporting mobile phone. It is planned to be offered to robot purchasers beginning in early February.

Developed this time around is a BREW appli capable of wirelessly remote-controlling the "Bluetooth Robot," a bipedal robot developed by IB. This appli is a special appli for the "W21T," a mobile phone containing Bluetooth functionality, and will be offered free of charge to purchasers of the Bluetooth Robot.

The controls consist of downloading this appli from an exclusive server, then connecting to the robot via Bluetooth. Also, optional operations can be downloaded and added to the appli, and actions can also be created for the robot using the included PC software.

IB plans to release the Bluetooth Robot as a construction kit in early February. Orders on a certain page will be taken from January 21st. The height of the robot is 29cm, and it weighs about 950g. The price is 198,000 yen.
