Seems like it's taken too long for someone to finally integrate these two. I've never really used the floppy drive in my PC, except for when other people in the dorm would print out papers, but something like this may actually lead me to use it.
Or wait, no it won't. This is an external USB floppy drive. I wish someone would come out with an internal floppy drive that supported flash memory.
Imation Corporation will release the double speed "FD2X-FG" floppy drive with a card reader function on December 15th. It is listed as Open Price, but indicators suggest it should cost around 6,800 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, as well as Mac OS 9 or above.
The floppy portion features a read/write speed twice that of conventional floppy drives. The card slot supports, without an adapter, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, miniSD, SD card, MMC, Memory Stick, and Memory Stick PRO. Its interface is USB 1.1.
Two models will be available: Piano White and Piano Black body colors. The main unit's size is 103 x 163 x 18mm (W x D x H), and it weighs 320g.
