Overview
Video Eyewear is actually an American product, by a company called "Icuiti." But since VisualWear, in charge of Asian sales of the Video Eyewear, has already announced the product, we're covering it here at TechJapan first.
So what exactly is Video Eyewear? Technically speaking, the system consists of two 1cm2 displays, creating the effect of a 42" display about 2 meters away from your face. The screens can display a resolution of 640 x 480, and feature two common input ports: NTSC video and analog RGB. Morever, the twin screens allow for display of 3D content using a simple parallax technique.
Reasoning
I'm not going to lie - one of the only reasons I chose the Video Eyewear as this week's Product of the Week is because it was one of the only Products of the Week.
But that doesn't mean it's a shitty product, by any means. I've seen plenty of HMD systems come and go, namely those from Sony (the Glasstron) and Elza (something that was included with video cards). The Video Eyewear stuck a bizarre chord with me, though. Perhaps it's the Japanese chick? Perhaps it's the fact that it accepts both conventional video signals and analog RGB video signals? Perhaps it's the 3D display technology, which I've yet to see accomplished well enough for any actual adoption?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Video Eyewear as well.
