Those clowns down at NTT Communications have successfully transmitted three uncompressed HDTV movies simultaneously, using a 10Gb ethernet connection.
NTT Communications (NTT Com) has announced that they have, for the first time in the world, successfully transmitted an uncompressed HDTV signal using 10Gb ethernet and IPv4 and IPv6.
The experiment consisted of application of "i-Visto," developed by NTT, to convert HD images into IP packets. one stream required 1.5Gbps, and NTT transmitted three streams simultaneously in this manner.
Until now, it had been necessary to have some sort of prior arrangements, because transmission was typically done with microwave beams, communication satellites, dedicated lines, or tape transportation. But with the success of this experiment, NTT has said that realtime subject transmission and remote editing is capable from distant places using high quality video.
NTT expects this development to lead to improvements in live broadcasts, such as an increased number of cameras, and shortening the time required for broadcasting.
A demonstration will be held from November 17th at the "InterBEE2004" international boradcast machinery exposition in Makuhari Messe.
