Matsushita Electric will begin sales of the "SJ-MR50" portable MD recorder from 25 November. It's the world's smallest and lightest MD recorder with an internal microphone and speaker! Well, what are you waiting for? You know you want one!

Matsushita Electric will begin sales of a portable MD recorder with an internal stereo and mono speaker, the "SJ-MR50", from 25 November. No retail price has been set but the expected street price is 32,000 yen. Included accessories include a 6-key remote control, NiMH rechargeable battery, external battery case and carrying case.
The MD recorder has maximum external dimensions of 80.9mm x 23.4mm x 88.3mm (WxDxH) and weighs 115g (142g including battery). It is the world's smallest and lightest MD recorder with an internal microphone and speaker.
The large character LCD display and large operation buttons are designed to make the MD recorder easy to operate, even for beginners. Recording functions include a VOS (Voice Operation System), which automatically starts and stops recording when it senses sound.
Playback functions include a speed control function to vary playback speed anywhere between +100% and -50%, an "AB repeat function" and random repeat playback. In addition, other features include anti-skip shock protection (std: 40secs, LP2: 80 secs, LP4: 160secs), S-XBS bass circuitry (2 levels) and "TRAIN mode", which cuts "sound leakage" to the surrounding environment.
Speaker output is 120mW (JEITA standard). Power is supplied by the included square-shaped NiMH rechargeable battery. Charging time is approximately 4 hours and continuous operating time is up to 40 hrs for headphone playback, 11 hours for speaker playback and 19 hours for internal microphone recording. If the external battery case (4 x AA) is used, a maximum of 113 hrs operation for headphone playback and 53 hours operation for internal microphone recording is possible.

I live in Washington, DC in the United States. I absolutely love MD and this new model: Panasonic SJ-MR50. Is there going to be any way that I can get one in the U.S.? Sadly, we have a very small number of MD models in the U.S. and they are only Sony. Thank you! |

Looks like you're out of luck for the time being :( However, two places you should keep an eye on are: http://www.japan-direct.com and http://www.audiocubes.com Both carry imported MiniDisc recorders/players, so if anyone online will be selling the SJ-MR50 to people outside of Japan, it's going to be one of these two. |
