Big Brother has moved a bit closer with the development of wireless, wearable security tool by Citizen. The [CertifGate] security tool automatically locks and unlocks depending on the user's proximity to the PC. It can also be used to determine the position of a user on a wireless LAN.
Citizen Watch Co. announced that they have developed a wireless, wearable security tool, the [CertifGate], on 18 October. Sales are planned to begin in March 2005.
The CertifGate security tool consists of a nametag-style mobile key and a PC-connected antenna. If the user moves away from the PC, the PC will automatically lock to prevent unauthorised use. When the user returns to the PC, the lock is quickly cancelled, negating the need to use inconvenient methods such USB key or question-based authentication.
In addition, using a LAN, the system is also able to detect a user's current position or destination. Using this function, it is possible to quickly locate a user just by clicking on their name on a computer screen.
The CertifGate security tool will be on display at "Security Solution 2004" at Tokyo Big Site from 20-22 October.
