Matsushita Electric has added a couple of new models to their range of Strada car navigation systems - the HDD-based 2DIN CN-HDS930MD and the DVD-based CN-DS110. Both systems have an "Entertainment Bank" function that allows the playback of MPEG4, MP3 and JPEG files.
Matsushita Electric has added a 2DIN model to its "Strada F-class" series of high-end HDD car naviation systems. The CN-HDS930MD will go on sale from 10 November at a price of 312,900 yen.
The CN-HDS930MD is the first 2DIN all-in-one model in the Strada series. It will appeal to users who are unable to install in-dash or on-dash navigation systems in their vehicles.
The 800x480 6.5" wide VGA monitor is the same as that of the CN-HDS950MD, which has been on sale since June. Besides the HDD navigation, a DVD/CD drive, MD deck, TV tuner, FM/AM tuner and 18W x 4ch amplifier are also installed.
Approximately 12GB of the 30GB HDD is available as a "user area" after taking into account the map data. Music CDs can be ripped to the HDD with track info obtained from a CDDB database. An SD memory card slot is also installed. Using the installed "Entertainment Bank" functionality, MPEG-4 video, MP3 files and JPEG-format still images can be played or viewed.
The LCD monitor has a D2 terminal input for connection to an in-car terrestrial digital tuner planned for future release. The DVD/CD deck supports playback of DVD video, music CDs and MP3 files recorded on CD-R/RW disks.

The CN-DS110 portable DVD car navigation system will also go on sale from 1 November. It will be available in silver(D), black (KD) and brown (TD) colours and retail for 155,400 yen.
The all-in-one unit contains a DVD-video and CD compatible DVD navgation unit, 7" LCD display and TV tuner. MPEG-4/MP3/JPEG files stored on SD memory card can be played back using the Entertainment Bank function.
