DDI Pocket will be changing their name when they separate from KDDI.

In case you have forgotten, DDI Pocket is one of the last surviving PHS providers in Japan.

DDI Pocket announced that they will change their company's name to "Willcom Corporation" on February 1st, 2005. The new corporate brand will become "WILLCOM."

DDI Pocket will be changing the company name to Willcom Corporation, and expand their PHS enterprise under the new WILLCOM brand. This company name has been decided from 1,320 entries submitted by employees throughout the company. WILLCOM comes from the "Wireless IP Local Loop" PHS network being pushed by DDI Pocket, and the meaning of "WILL" has multiple meanings - either way, the COM part is from the "communication" in "wireless communications.

It was also announced that due to the DDI Pocket's purchase in June of this year by the American investment firm Carlyle Group and Kyocera, a new company would be established separate from the KDDI Group. The new DDI Pocket chain of command consists of management by president Kinoshita and Chairman Yamashita, and the founder of Kyocera, Mr. Yasuo Inamori, will assume the role of highest advisor to the CEO. The existing DDI Pocket will be settled as "Iidabashi Phoenix Planning" before the end of the year, and the new company will takeover current operations and employees.
