If you've been following Gizmodo, you've seen these already. But this is the first time I'm covering this product here at TechJapan, so I'll go ahead and assume you haven't seen it before.
Basically, these are portable USB speakers that also draw power from the USB port. You need no other audio or power cables to operate these. I think we've seen similar offerings from other companies already, but as far as I know, this is Sony's first attempt.
Sony will release the "SRS-T10PC" portable USB speakers, intended for use with a notebook PC, on October 21st. The price is 6195 yen. Three colors will be available: white (W), black (B), and Violet (V). Supported operating systems are Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, and XP.
These are anti-magnetic USB speakers with an internal amplifier. Audio input beyond USB is not required. The external dimensions are 170 x 24 x 60mm (W x D x H), and the speakers have a weight of 190g.
A 30cm USB cable is included, and power is drawn from the USB connection. Thus, there is no need to connect audio or power cables. The USB cable can also be stored inside of the reverse of the body.
The amplifier has a total output of 500mW. It uses a thin-type unit with a neosium magnet, and has a damperless construction.
A cover to protect the speakers during transportation is included. The cover can open all the way to the back, so it can also be used as a speaker stand.
