Seiko Epson Corporation will release the "Photo Fine Player P-2000" in late October that features a 3.8" low-temp polysilicon TFT LCD, and MPEG-4 playback. Though it is Open Price, indicators suggest it should cost around 55,000 yen.
The P-2000 features a "Photo Fine" low-temp polysilicon TFT LCD display developed by Epson, with a resolution of 640 x 480 and 260,000 color display. It contains a 2.5" 40GB hard drive. It also is equipped with CF Type II and SD Memory Card slots, and data from these cards can be transferred to the P-2000 hard drive. Using the screen, JPEG, RAW (supported cameras, D2H, D1H, D1X, D100, D70, 1D Mark II, 10D, D30, D60, Kiss Digital, R-D1), and TIFF formatted images can be displayed.
In addition to still images, MPEG-4, Motion JPEG, and MP3/AAC audio files can also be played back. When playing video, color correction will be done realtime. Bitrates of up to 3Mbps for Motion JPEG and 1.5Mbps for MPEG-4 are supported. The maximum file size is 2GB, maximum resolution 640 x 480, and up to 30fps are supported.
However, using the included "Epson Photo! 4" software, MPEG-1/2 videos for playback must be converted to MPEG-4 for playback on the P-2000.
Bitrates of up to 320kbps are supported for MP3 and AAC. on the reverse of the unit is a stereo headphone port, and it also contains a mono speaker. Interfacing with a PC is done with USB 2.0, and it also supports the Storage class. Supported operating systems are Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Mac OS 9.1+, and Mac OS X 10.2+. ALso, when connected to Epson printers, the device can also print directly.
A 4-pin minijack is featured for AV output, and connection to a TV can be done using cables available in the normal market. Using the included exclusive Lithium Ion battery, MPEG-4 can be played for 2.5 hours, and audio for 5 hours. Available as an optional purchase is the "PALB2" battery itself.
The external dimensions are 147 x 31.4 x 84mm (W x D x H), and it has a weight of 415g including the batteries. And exclusive stand, carrying case, and strap are included.
