Yes, add another contender to Sony's side for support of Blu-Ray. LG Korea has announced a new DVR unit that features Blu-Ray writing capabilities.
LG Electronics of Korea, Inc. announced that they will release a Blu-Ray Disc recorder unit which features a 160GB hard drive, the "BH-6900." The price is Open Price. Details of the products' commercialization were announced at the "2004 International CES" held in January of 2004. This makes three companies that now offer Blu-Ray disc recorders: Sony, Matsushita Electric, and now LG Electronics. This is the first Blu-Ray disc recorder to feature a hard drive.
The BH-6900 contains an ATSC supporting tuner, allowing for the recording of HDTV broadcasts to the hard drive or Blu-Ray disc media. It also supports the playback of DVDs and CDs. After-play is also supported from the hard drive. Not only can programs recorded on the hard drive be transferred to Blu-Ray disc media, programs recorded on Blu-Ray disc media can be transferred to the hard drive.
