Samsung has announced the world's first 60nm memory, which is apparently "a year ahead" of the rest of the industry.

More importantly, though, I thought their claim that they would surpass Intel within the next few years was interesting. They just might be right.

Samsung Electronics of Korea announced o­n the 20th that they have developed memory using an ulta-micro manufacturing technology - the world's first 60nm (1 nm = .00000001m) process. The company is about a year ahead compared with competitors. Also, Samsung announced that they expect to surpass Intel as the world's largest semiconductor maker within the next few years.

President of Samsung Semiconductor Synthesis, Jangyu Fan, explained the company's semiconductor market strategy at a meeting in Seoul o­n the 20th.
Mr. Fan announced that with as practical implementation of this processing, the company has also developed an 8Gb NAND flash memory. He stressed that this was the fifth year of the company doubling semiconductor memory capacity o­n a yearly basis.
