You may remember the Serial > Bluetooth adapter.
Same concept, but this goes to USB instead of wireless. Honestly though, what modern devices use serial?
I'm thinking this is for using old devices on (new) computers without a serial port (read: Macs).

IO Data Device Corporation will release the "USB-RSAQ3" USB-RS232C conversion adapter in the middle of October. The price is 8,000 yen.

By using this produced, modems and terminal adapters connecting by RS-232C can be used on computers that may not have this port. The cable length is 1m. It supports plug and play. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, ME, 2000 Pro, XP, Mac OS 9.0.4+, and Mac OS X 10.1+.

This isn't really a new invention. I've had one for a long time to use my cellphone as a modem.

Now a device that converts a serial port into a USB port would be a feat.. useless, but a feat =)

"Now a device that converts a serial port into a USB port would be a feat.. useless, but a feat =)"

But isn't that what this product is basically doing? You're not replicating the actual port, but a device that would normally be plugged into the serial port instead plugs into the USB port.
Or did you mean something else?
