The USB jack is mounted o­n some sort of hinge, so it can be "deployed." I find this to be a much more efficient usage of space than your typical methods of just covering the port over, so here I am reporting o­n it.

Milestone Corporation will release the "GOOVOX WAVE" (MMGV05) silicon audio player with a USB jack, in late September. 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB models will be available; each of them are Open Price.

The estimated retail price for the 256MB model is around 20,000 yen, the 512MB model around 25,000 yen, and the 1GB model around 30,000 yen. Each model is available in silver, blue, and red colorings.

This is a silicon audio player with a USB connector that rotates 180 degrees and can be stored inside the unit. The interface is USB 1.1, and it supports the storage class. It can also be used as USB memory. Supported operating systems are Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, XP, and Mac OS 9.0 and above.

Supported audio formats are MP3/WMA, and it also supports the playback of WMA files with DRM. Supported bitrates are, for MP3, 32kbps ~ 320kbps, and for WMA, 32kbps ~ 192kbps. In addition to "Normal," "Rock," "Pop," "Classic," "Live," and "Jazz" equalizer settings, it also features 1 user set equalizer. Furthemore, it features SRS 3D surround mode.

Also, the main body features an analog stereo input, and it can encode directly to MP3. A microphone and FM tuner are also furnished, and it can be used as a voice recorder. FM broadcasts can also be recorded in the MP3 format.

Using the internal battery, the player can operate continuously for 14 hours. Recharging is done by power supplied from the USB port, and recharging takes about 140 minutes. An AC adapter, sold separately, is also planned to be released soon.

The player has a 132 x 56 dot LCD. 7 backlight colors are furnished: red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, cyan, and white. Japanese ID3 tag display support is also featured. The external dimensions are 88 x 29.8 x 17.8mm (H x W x T).
