There's probably a good reason this is the world's first mouse with an internal speaker. I doubt there's much demand for such a thing.
Now a mouse with an internal microphone; that would be a different story. It would remind me of the part in Star Trek IV...where...bah, nevermind.
Bit Compass Corporation, in cooperation with Korea's JB Entech, will release the "ClickV" mouse. This is the world's first mouse to feature an internal vibrating speaker, and it will be released on October 20th. Though it is listed as Open Price, the estimated retail price is around 7,800 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP. Three colorings will be available: silver, black, and dark blue.
This is an optical mouse with an internal plane-based speaker unit. The case of the mouse features the unit as well as an amplifier with a 2W output; the setup supports a monoaural speaker function. An ABS resin enclosure is used for the mouse, and the frequency response is from 60Hz to 17kHz. A volume adjustment dial is featured on the side of the mouse.
Also, a vibrating motor is encased, meaning that the mouse itself can vibrate in reaction to low to medium frequencies. This is said to display the might of PC games. The strength of the vibration is adjusted proportionally to the volume. When the volume is fixed, it will react to frequencies as much as 80Hz. Furthermore, power to the motor and amp is supplied by the USB port.
There is no need to install additional software on the PC, and said connection is done by USB 1.1. In order to utilize the sound and vibration functions, the included stero mini cable needs to be plugged into the PC's sound output. An USB > PS/2 conversion adapter is also included.
The included stereo mini cable features a through-type connector, meaning that even while the mouse is connected to the PC's sound output, normal external speakers can still be connected. When the external speakers are connected, however, both the mouse speaker and vibration function cannot be used at the same time.
As far as mouse functions go, this is a three button optical mouse in addition to the wheel, and it has a resolution of 800dpi. The scan speed is 2,600 times per second. The main body size is 62 x 113 x 32mm (W x D x H), and the weight including cable is 152g. The cable is 1.8m long.
