More new Memory Sticks from Sony.
Also, 2GB model is due out in November.
Sony will begin releasing Memory Stick PRO media with increased data transfer speeds on October 8th. They are Open Price.
These are Memory Stick PRO (High Speed) and Memory Stick PRO Duo (High Speed) media that support actual writing/reading speeds of 10MB/sec (80Mbps). When compared to existing models, this transfer speed is about double.
Reading these cards requires a device supporting parallel data transfer, and though the cards will operate on existing Memory Stick PRO devices, more detailed announcements about product support will be made in October on the company's homepage.
Also, the certified operating temperature of the cards has been upgraded to -25 degrees Celsius ~ 85 degrees Celsius from the existing 0 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius, so they can now operate in more rigourous environments.

I'm really looking forward for new Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, because those are the ones I'll be able to use in my P900 once I get it flashed to P910a (right now I can only use DUO cards 'till 128mb grrrrr...). But I think the 1gb one is too expensive for me, 512mb for 10000 yen less will feed me with enough OGGs without having to stop eating :D. But I guess I'll check out other brand's cards, they're usually cheaper than Sony's... Anyway I think I'm a helpless consumist... don't you think zmcnulty? :( And worst of all: with no money usually :'( |

Helpless? Bullshit! Everyone should own at least one Memory Stick. My first Cybershot came with a *4MB* Memory Stick. I don't even know where it is anymore (the stick). I soon went out and paid $140 for a 64MB one. This was at a time when CompactFlash was still available up to only 128MB. Around this time last year, I finally got one of those 128MB x 2 Memory Sticks, for $50. Unfortunately, my laptop, Clie, and Cybershot are all too old to handle the new Pro ones. Still, it's good to see Memory Stick get a higher capacity. Considering CF is what...almost 12GB now, I'd say Sony needs to work on catching up. But the market as a whole needs to figure out some way to really lower their prices; hard drives are getting smaller and smaller, and are really cutting into the flash memory market. |
