Interesting idea - it's just a hard drive case that plays a variety of video files from the hard drive within. I like it because it's pretty cheap, and it provides a quick way to playback video on a TV - all you need to do is connect it to your PC with USB 2.0, transfer your files, and you're done.
Gate will release the "TViX" hard drive case which can playback movie, audio, and still image files saved on a hard drive, on September 1st. It costs 19,800 yen (including tax).
It is made by Korea's DViCO. When connected to a 3.5" HD (ATA connection), and then to a DV, video and audio files can be played back on a TV. The playback of MPEG-2 (AVI, VOB), MPEG-1, MPEG-4 (AVI, DivX, XviD), MP3, WMA, OggVorbis, and JPEG files is supported.
Also supported is progressive playback. JPEG data can be played in a slideshow style, and operation of the unit is done by remote control.
For video output, the unit is equipped with component, composite, and s-video jacks. Audio output is done using analog 2ch, optical, and coaxial digital - when connected to an amplifier, 5.1ch playback is supported. Also included is a USB 2.0 port, and the unit can be used as an external hard drive case.
The size is 122.5 x 171.8 x 68.5mm (W x D x H).
