Put your MD or CD player in o­ne of these pouches, and there you go - it's a speaker.

JVC will release the "Pouch Speaker," a pouch with an internal active speaker for portable MD and CD players, in the first part of August. Both the "SP-A200MD" for MD and "SP-A300CD" for CD will be listed as Open Price. The estimated retail price of the MD version is 2,700 yen, and for the CD version, 3,000 yen.



The MD pouch will be available in blue (-A), pink (-P), and silver (-S), while the CD pouch will be available in blue and pink.

The pouch itself contains an active flat panel speaker. Using flat panel speaker technology developed by England's NXT, sound can come from the exterior of the pouch itself. Even if a player is shut inside of the pouch, it is said that surround sound playback spreads well considering the pouch's size.

For a driver unit, the SP-A200MD uses o­ne with a 19mm diameter, and the SP-A300CD uses a 25mm diameter unit. The internal amplifier has a maximum output of 500mW for both. Using two AAA batteries for the SP-A200MD, it can play for about 7 hours; using two AA batteries o­n the SP-A300CD can drive it for about 15 hours.

The SP-A200MD can fit a portable MD player inside. The SP-A300CD can fit a portable CD player and about twelve 12cm discs. The external dimensions of the SP-A200 are 90 x 90 x 20mm (H x W x T), and the SP-A300CD is 135 x 135 x 24 (same).

The player and speaker connect with a stereo mini plug, with a 250mm length. Each model also features a hook for attaching to the waist. It is made of EVA material, said to be highly shock resistant.

The external dimensions and weight of the pouches, when containing batteries, and accesories, for the SP-A200MD, 128 x 128 x 47mm (H x W x T) at 200g, and the SP-A300CD is 170 x 170 x 54mm (same) at around 360g.
