These things are getting like how CD-R drives, with more and more "xs."
One of the good parts about high speed flash memory though, is that it's actually got a use beyond allowing the user to just save time - higher sustained transfer rates mean flash memory could theoretically be used for more demanding applications. Since 6.75MB/sec (the 45x transfer speed of these cards) is enough transfer speed to provide bitrates higher than a majority of today's DVDs, you should see my point. Another reason for high speed cards is recovery time on digital cameras - as cameras get more and more megapixels, more data needs to be recorded to the flash memory in the same span of time.
Corega Corporation will begin releasing models in the "CG-FM45" series of high-speed type CompactFlash cards on the 14th.
5 models will be available: 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB. Respective prices are 6,300 yen, 11,550 yen, 23,940 yen, 49,140 yen, and 98,490 yen. only the 512MB model will be released on the 15th; other models were released on the 14th. The size is CF Type1.
These high capacity/high speed CF memory cards, intended for use in digital cameras, have a transfer rate of 45x (6.75MB/sec) proper.
With the increasing popularity of high class single lef digital cameras, and the increased use of RAW data image recording with a large file size, the demand for high capacity and high speed CF memory cards is increasing.
