You can transfer your DV movies from your camera using your USB 2.0 port, in case you don't have IEEE 1394 for some reason. This cable even supports the USB Video class, so it might even be better than using IEEE 1394.

Pixela Corporation will release the "DV to USB2.0 Transfer Cable (PIX-UVCD/U1W)," a USB Video class-supporting DV capture USB cable, in the first part of July. The official price is Open Price, and indicators suggest it should cost around 9,500 yen. The supported operating system(s?) is Windows XP SP1 or above, and DirectX 9b is also required.

The USB Video Class is a standard implemented by the USB IF (Implementers Forum), which allows for the delivery of a video signal using the USB connection, as well as equipment control (such as play, stop, zoom, etc.). As an OS-level standard driver, it is planned to be included starting with Windows XP SP2, thereby also making the reading of the DV format also possible with USB 2.0.

The PIX-UVCD/U1W is a USB cable that connects to the DV port of the DV camera and the USB 2.0 port of the PC, and users can then capture DV. It features the exclusive "PIX-MC20" LSI developed by Pixela.

Using the included "Image Mixer2.0" software, o­ne can capture from a DV camera, control/edit video, and create DVD videos. Furthermore, although the video cannot currently be dropped back to the DV camera, support for this is planned for when Windows XP SP2 is released. It does not support the reading of HDV.

Power consumption is around 300mA. The external dimensions are 78 x 32 x 16mm, and the cable is 1.2m long. The weight is around 66g.
