The specifications list both DivX 4 and 5 as being supported playback formats. It can also record to MPEG-4.
I like the 60GB capacity...most other portable players I've seen have only had 20GB or so. It's even got S-Video output, which is nice.
NHJ Corporation will release two models (30GB/60GB) of their new portable MPEG-4 player/recorder with a 3.5" LCD screen beginning in July.
The "MPM-201," with a silver body color and internal 30GB HD will be released in the first part of July, and the "MPM-202," with a black body color and 60GB HD will be released in the back part of August; both are planned for Open Price. The estimated retail price of the "MPM-201" is around 50,000 yen, and the "MPM-202" around 60,000 yen.
On the main body of the unit is a 3.5" LCD capable of displaying 480 x 234 dots, which is used for watching MPEG-4 videos stored inside the unit. The included cradle also features an integrated terrestrial analog tuner, meaning that when the unit is set in the cradle, TV can be viewed. Also, it can record TV in the MPEG-4 format (audio is IMA ADPCM), at three modes: VGA fine (4Mbps), VGA (2Mbps), and QVGA (1Mbps).
TV recording can be carried out by simply pressing the "RECORD" button on the cradle watching TV; it also features a timer record function. The cradle furnishes AV in/outputs, and an S-Video output. It also supports recording of MPEG-4 video from other devices.
A USB 2.0 port is on the body of the unit itself, allowing it to interface with a PC. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, SE, ME, 2000, XP, Mac OS 9, and OS X 10.2+. Apart from the MPEG-4 video recorded on the unit, the playback of DivX 4.x, 5.x, MP3, and JPEG files is also supported.
Both SD memory card and CF card slots are provided, and the unit supports reading of image files from a digital camera. It includes functions to rotate, zoom, and do a slideshow with the images.
Internal 230mW x 2ch stereo speakers are on the unit, as well as a headphone port. The battery is a rechargable Lithium Ion, and it can operate for about 3 hours (video), or 6 hours (audio). The external dimensions of the unit are 140.4 x 80.4 x 30.5mm (W x D x H) at a weight of 286g. The cradle is 164.2 x 80 x 30.5mm (W x D x H). A remote controller, AV in/output cables, and earphones are included.

Sounds good, but personally I'm holding off until someone comes out with a unit that can read files from a DVD-R. There's a few DVD players that can play DivX/XviD from discs, so it shouldn't be too long until someone comes out with something that can do the same thing in a much smaller package. |
