And believe it or not, it's going to be released in America. Fed up with that 1080i? Have $80,000 USD to spare? This projector is for you.
Sony announced on the 4th that they will release digital cinema projectors in America that use the "4K SXRD (Silicon X-Tal Reflective Display)," with a 4096 x 2160 dot resolution. This marks the industry's first commercialization of a 4K (four times full HD) projector.
The lineup announced was the "SRX-R110," with a 10,00 ANSI Lumen brightness, and the "SRX-R105," with a 5,000 ANSI Lumen brightness. The cost of the R110 will be around $80,000, and the R105 will cost around $60,000. However, neither the supplier nor how many units will be supplied has been announced.
Both of the projectors have the same external dimensions, are 740 x 900 x 430mm (W x D x H). They have a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. In addition to being able to project one screen that is 4,096 x 2,160 dots, it can also project four full HD (1,920 x 1,080 dot) screens. Sony has suggested that in addition to movie theaters, the projector could be used at multipurpose halls, management centers, etc.
As an option, copyright protection and screen management regulated by the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) will be offered. Also, Sony has said that they plan on "expanding their lineup with higher resolution equipment aimed at larger screens, etc."

I would enjoy playing a video game or two on this. Well, that's providing I have a computer powerful enough to actually drive a game at that resolution, much less a game that supports resolutions that high... |
