I don't know how being shaped like a theta makes them better, but I suppose by the end of this article I will find out. They've got an internal amp, too.

Onkyo Corporation will release the "GX-R3X" stereo speakers with an internal amplifier, in the back part of June. The nickname for the speakers is "Leθ (Lu . Theta)". The price should be around 9,450 yen.

These are stereo speakers whose shape resembles the "θ" character when viewed from the top down. They are intended to be connected to PCs and/or portable audio devices and used as desktop speakers. Three body colors are available: Platinum White (W), onyx Black (B), and Bold Red (R).

The speakers use a curved cabinet design which reduces reverberation. Also, apart from omitting the condensor that is traditionally between the amp and speaker components, these speakers use "AERO ACOUSTIC DRIVE" technology that enables playback of low frequencies by uniting both mass and speed. With the inclusion of an independently developed "Slide Duct" that acts as a Bass Reflex mechanism, the speakers are design for high quality sound.

With an 8cm diameter, the unit has a OMF diaphragm. The speakers are also tilted at a 15 degree slope, which guarantees the optimum listening position of sitting on the desktop at a short distance. The frequency response is from 55Hz - 30kHz, the maximum output is 6W x 2ch, and the input impedence is 10kOhms.

The main body of the unit features a bass control dial and volume control. "Active Bass Control" is a feature of the bass control, which reduces OTOWARE (sorry, I don't know what the hell this word means...it's some sort of sound problem apparently) caused by changes of the bass volume during periods of loud and quiet sounds.

For the input ports, there are 2x analog (1x RCA, 1x stereo mini). Subwoofer and headphone outputs are also furnished. Power comes from an AC adapter, and the power consumption is 19W.

The external dimensions and weight of the units are, for the right channel, 99 x 170 x 170mm (W x D x H) at 0.8kg, and for the left channel, 91 x 170 x 170mm (W x D x H) at 0.7kg. A spacer is also included for spacing.
