TDK has announced their super strong DVD+R media, 100 times more resistant to scratches, to be released on June 21. Too bad it's only 1x~4x compatible.
These discs have "Super Hard Coat" on the data side, making them 100 times more resistant to scratches and 10 times more resistant to fingerprints compared with media currently on the market. So when you see dust on the disc, or accidentally spilt [insert your favorite beverage] on it, you can simply wipe it clean and not worry about leaving scratch marks or fingerprints. "UV Guard" also prevents degradation of the dye chemicals due to exposure to light, tested to be 3 times better than existing media. Unfortunately these only support 4x writing, but should be useful when you want to archive important data. They will be available from June 21, expected price is 600 yen ($5) apiece or 2,500 yen ($22) for a 5-pack.
