Now if Sony decides to release something like this the day after they announce their 20GB audio/photo player, it makes you wonder why they wouldn't just go ahead and put one in there. It would be a good selling point...you'd think.
Sony has announced that they will begin selling the "BTF-ZK48X" in May, which is an analog TV tuner with integrated FM tuner, and has a volume of a mere 1.3mL. The sample price is 35,000 yen.
Apart from have a size reduction of 20% from the already stamp-sized "BTF-ZJ401" announced back in October of 2002, they have also added an FM tuner function. The signal to noise ratio is 47dB. The power consumption has also been reduced by 20%, bringing it to 0.63W.
The external dimensions and weight of the device are 25 x 20 x 2.6mm (W x D x H) and 2.6g, making it not only 0.4mm thinner than the previous model, but also 0.9g lighter. Sony has said that they seek to have the new tuner module be used in cellular phones and other small devices with low power consumption.
