Plays DivX and XviD. It also has a 2.5" LCD display, and can be controlled with your mind.
??? You tell me.
UPDATE 4/27: Upon further investigation (see comments in this story), I have found that instead of "being controlled" with your mind, the case is just the reverse - this player can control your mind.
Thanko Limited will release the "mPAVIO" portable HD video player through their "Rare Mono Shop" on the 26th.
This is a portable player with an internal hard drive that can playback video files, and was developed by Korea's Penurocom. Two models are available - one including a 20GB hard drive, and the other without a hard drive, which will accept a 2.5" hard drive. The price of the 20GB HD model is 45,990 yen, and the HD-less model is 31,290 yen.
The device supports the playback of MPEG-1/2/4, DivX, and XviD. It features a 2.5" LCD display. The hard drive is interchangable, and 2.5 inch hard drives up to 40GB can be used. Also, it supports the playback of MP3. Furthermore, for audio/video filenames, only single-byte English characters are supported - it does not support double-byte/single-byte Kana characters.
Connection to a PC is done with USB 2.0, and the device is recognized as standard USB storage. Video output and audio output ports are furnished, so as to be able to connect the player with a TV and such. It also features a MCP port, which can be connected to an optional Mind Control Program device.
The battery is a 2,200mAh Lithium Ion. The continuous playback time is about 3 hours.
The external dimensions of the player is 85 x 142 x 40m (W x D x H), and when including the 20GB and battery, it weighs 450g. A remote controller, AC adapter, USB cable, and special stand are included.

What the hell is "MPC" and can I use identity discs with this thing? |

xarph...thanks for the comments. As for the Mind Control Program port, your guess is as good as mine. I'm going to go out on a REALLY long limb here. First of all, the only English results I could find for "MCP port" were about a rather obscure port type, like a TCP port. I was lead to a Japanese search for "脳波学習," which means "brain wave learning." The only relevant results I could find was this page, which is some of those "brainwave inducer" glasses I'm pretty sure you've seen at stores like Brookstone, if they have those in your area. Tracing this product back to its original manufacturer led me to an English page, which describes the glasses a little better. And guess what? It's a Korean company. Call me a racist, but as I mentioned in the article about this player, it's also a Korean product. Coincidence? I think not. Also, if you look VERY closely at this image of the device's OSD, you will see "MCP" has some sort of glasses pictured. Coincidence? I think not. Anyway, hope this helps. one thing that remains mysterious to me is that the glasses I found are serial - as you can see from the above image of the ports, the MCP port is strikingly similar to the USB port. I suspect that you plug the glasses into this port, and you can get some sort of experience - I don't know if it just projects the video, or some sort of relaxation mode...or whatever. But I think you get the picture. And...forgive my ignorance...what's an identity disc? |
