This is the external version of the Pioneer DVR-A07. It features USB 2.0/IEEE 1394 connections, 8x DVD±R recordinrg, and 4x DVD±RW recording.

Pioneer Corporation will release the "DVR-S706-J," an external DVD±R drive, in the first part of May. While officially listed as Open Price, indicators suggest it should cost around 25,000 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows 2000 and XP.

This is an external version of the ATAPI internal "DVR-A07-J" released back in February, with USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 connections. The maximum write speed for DVD-R and DVD+R is 8x, for DVD-RW and DVD+RW 4x, and for CD-R/RW, 24x. It also supports the playback of DVD-RAM discs.

The case is silver and the front bezel is black. To reduce sound, the case uses a special honeycomb construction, as well as padding to soundproof and protect against dust. When combined with "UltraDRA" (Dynamic Resonance Absorber), noise is drastically reduced during periods of high rotation speeds, and the device as a whole has been designed with quietness in mind.

The drive also features the "Advanced Quiet Firmware" which can automatically adjust the rotation speed of the disc. It also includes the "Advance Quiet Utility" which allows for manual selection between "Quiet Mode" and "Performance Mode."

The external dimensions of the drive are 167 x 272.8 x 56.2mm (W x D x H), and the weight is 2.1kg. It includes a special stand, and can be used vertically. An AC adapter, cable, and handbook are included.

The included software is "DVD MovieWriter Advance SE" authoring software that supports VR mode, "VideoStudio 7 SE" video editing software, "RecordNow" writing software," "WriteDVD!" packet writing software, "Simply Backup" backup software, and "WinDVD 5" DVD playback software.
