IO Data is first to release two products supporting the iVDR standard. Cheap? No. Cool? Yes.
IO Data Device Corporation will release the "iVDR-20," and the same product including a USB 2.0 adapter, the "USB2-iVDR/20," two removable hard drives supporting the iVDR standard, in the back part of April
The price of the iVDR-20 is 25,200 yen, and then USB2-iVDR/20 is 35,570 yen.
This represents the first commercialization of the "iVDR" standard, which is a new removable medium designed for ubiquitous use between HD recorders and video cameras. The name stands for for "Information Versatile Disk for Removable usage."
The iVDR-20 is a media about the size of an MD case, and uses the iVDR mini standard (one of three sizes in the iVDR standard), and contains a 1.8", 20GB HD with a Serial ATA interface. The internal HD runs at 4200 rpms, has a 2MB buffer, and ships FAT32 formatted.
The body is made of reinforced plastic, and can withstand shocks of up to 900Gs when not in operation. The size is 80 x 67 x 10mm (W x D x H), and it weighs 70g.
The USB2-iVDR/20 is a set that includes a USB 2.0 reader writer with the drive. Supported operating systems are Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, and Mac OS 9.x, X 10.x~10.3.1.
Weighing in at 120g, the USB adapter's size is 95 x 135 x 21.5mm (W x D x H). It has a 50cm USB cable that can be wound inside the body when not in use.
