Mobile Phones: FOMA service area to have 98% nationwide coverage

This statistic is based o­n population in regards to the service area.

NTT DoCoMo is set to expand their FOMA service area from December 6th. By the end of December, population coverage in the areas surrounding the Kanto region will have spread to 99.4%, and 98% nationwide.

This time, the planned areas for the service expansion are 26 towns and villages such as Chiba Prefecture's Shirahama Town, and Nagano Prefecture's To- Village. Also, new service areas in the (Tokyo) metropolitan area include indoor locations such as the Toei Mita Line, Toei Daiedo Line, Toei Subway 4th Line 45th Station, and the Matsuzakaya headquarters in Ginza.

According to the company, there are 3,200 service stations for expansion in the areas surround Kanto, and 10,700 nationwide. This includes 358 indoor facilities in the Kanto area and 800 nationwide. With this, 98% of Japan's population will be covered by the service before the end of December. According to NTT DoCoMo North, NTT DoCoMo Hokkaido has achieved 100% population coverage. Also achieving 100% population coverage is a 3-company group including the Tokai DoCoMo.
