NTT DoCoMo announced that on March 30th, the number of FOMA contracts has hit 3,000,000. FOMA began in October of 2001.
NTT DoCoMo announced that they have achieved more than 3,000,000 FOMA contracts on March 30th. They had 2,000,000 contracts during January of this same year, so this represents an expansion of nearly 1,000,000 users in only two months.
FOMA service began operation in October of 2001. Although FOMA seemed to be stagnant at first, they achieved 1,000,000 subscribers two years later - September 30, 2003. Four months after that, they had 2,000,000 contracts, and two months after that, 3,000,000 contracts. The number of new subscribers is progressing favorably.
The company plans to expand outdoor coverage to 99% (based on population) by the end of March. Also, they will expand their underground and inside service area. Furthermore, with the "All You Can PACKET!" unlimited data option starting June 1st, the number of subscribers should continue to grow.

I'm sure part of the reason for the rapid expansion during March is because of the 900i series of phones. What likely happens is someone gets a 900i phone, and their friends really like all the features and such, so they decide to go with FOMA as well. And hey, why not? With unlimited data right around the corner, I'd probably sign up too. |
