Radius announced that they will be releasing some printable DVD-Rs which allow one to print in a greater radius (sorry, I had to) than those of previous.
You know how normally, in the middle of CD/DVD media, you have that clear plastic area near where you stick your finger? Well, this is really the first time that printable media of this sort is available to consumers. Those of you who are pirates can now make your bootlegs look even more convincing.

Radius Corporation will release printable DVD-R media (rated for 4x writing) in April. There are two models - one intended for data, the other for video. Each will be available in 1, 5, and 10 disc packs. All of them are open price. The price for each disc, on the video "RVR470-000314" and data "RDR-470-000-314" should be around 400 yen.

The shorter names for the products are as follows:
Video use: "TV Odoroku"
Data use: "PC Odoroku"
Translator's note: The name of these discs is a play on words. The character used for "roku" in the names of the discs means "record." The Japanese verb "odoroku" means "to suprise."
Both of the discs allow printing close to the hole in the middle of the disc. When compared to other current printable media, this represents a 10% increase in printable area.

Also, aimed at those who record discs, the company will begin a free trial of their original label and jacket image download service.

The discs support writing at 4x, under the "DVD-R for General Version 2.0/4X SPEED DVD R Revision 1.0" standard. The recording surface of the discs has a special coating to protect from damage and dirt.
