You guessed it, IO Data is now on the scene with their 8x DVD±R drive. According to a user of this site who will stay anonymous, IO Data is nothing more than an OEM distributor - they just take products developed by others, and slap their own badge on them. This theory would go with the specifications of this drive, as it is based on Pioneer's DVR-107D.
IO Data Device Corporation will release the "DVR-ABP8" ATAPI DVD drive, which supports writing DVD±R at 8x, in the back part of March. The price is 21,000 yen. Supported operating systems are Windows ME, 2000, and XP.
It uses Pioneer's "DVR-107D" drive. In addition to writing DVD±R discs at 8x, it can write DVD±RW discs at 4x, and CD-R/RW at 24x.
Finally, it supports reading DVD-RAM discs at 2x. The read speed on DVD-ROMs is 12x, and 40x for CD-ROMs. It does not support cartridge type DVD-RAM discs.
When not including the front panel, the external dimensions of the drive are 145.9 x 193 x 41.3mm (W x D x H) and it weighs 1.1kg. Included software is the all-in-one DVD authoring suite, "B's STUDIO" (which contains "muvee autoProducer," "movieFOLIO," "B's neoDVD Plus 5.0," "B's MoviePlayer," and "B's Recorder GOLD BASIC Ver.7"), as well as the packer writing software "B's CLiP5," and finally the photo album software, "Photoshop Album Mini."
