This time around are two portable DVD players.

The first one (DVD-LX8) has an LCD, and supports a wide range of media - even those stored on a SD memory card.

The next one (DVD-PS3) does not have an LCD, but is the world's smallest portable DVD player.

More information on and pictures of both models inside.

Matsushita Electrial Industires Corporation will release the 9 inch LCD "DVD-LX8" portable DVD player, and the world's smallest portable DVD player, the "DVD-PS3" on April 10th. The price for both units is "Open Price," but indicators suggest the LX8 will cost around 100,000 yen, and the PS3 will cost around 35,000 yen.

Both of the players supported DVD-Video/Audio, DVD-RAM (VR Mode), DVD-R (Video Mode), HighMAT Level 2, and CD-R/RW discs containing MP3s, WMAs, JPGs, etc.. There is also an optional car adapter available, the "DY-DC95 (12,000 yen)."

DVD-LX8

This is a portable DVD player with a 800x480 widescreen A-Si (uncrystallized silicon) TFT LCD display.

One of the primary features of the player is its ability to have the screen in three different styles - there is Normal (Style I), putting the screen toward the front part of the device (Style II), and the Compact (Style III) which puts the screen down on top of the player itself. These are more easily represented by the following image (they appear in same order as above):

It also has a TV tuner, and can use VHF, UHF, and CATV standards. Finally, it features a SD memory card slot, and can playback SD-Audio Format AAC, MP3, JPEG, and MPEG-4 movies.

The device is equipped with S-Video out, Composite in, Optical digital audio out, and analog audio in ports. The main unit is equipped with a shuttle dial for FF/RW and other functions.

The battery is an internal Lithium Ion (3,000mAh), and recharging time is about 4 hours. Expected battery life for DVD is about 2.5 hours, and TV/SD playback about 3 hours. The external dimensions are 232 x 173.5 x 30.7mm (W x D x H), and it weighs 1,250g. A remote control is included.

DVD-PS3

This is the smallest portable DVD player in the world, amongst those that do not have a monitor.

Using DVD-RAM playback support, this player can playback TV programs recorded on "DIGA" DVD recording units made by Matsushita. There are 1 of each of these three output ports: S-Video, Composite, Analog audio, Optical Digital audio. Operation of the player is on the main unit itself, or the included remote controller.

The size of the device is 144 x 140 x 20.2mm (W x D x H), and it weighs 310g. Power comes from an AC adapter. It can also operate via batteries, using the "DY-DB60" battery pack, and can operate for about 6 hours in this fashion.
