Mobile Phones: P900i to be available on February 29th

NTT DoCoMo has announced the release date of the third phone it the FOMA 900i series. The Panasonic P900i will be released o­n February 29th.



NTT DoCoMo will release the 3rd phone in the FOMA 900i series, the "P900i" made by Panasonic Mobile Communications o­n the 29th. It has interchangeable panels, so users may select a body design that matches their own preference.

The "P900i" is a new FOMA phone from Panasonic Mobile Communications that has "custom jackets" which are interchangeable. Using custom jackets sold seperately, users can choose their own design.

Panasonic's P900i also includes a CCD camera with an effective 1.28MP resolution, that even has an Auto-Focus function. The maximum recordable size is SXGA. It supports miniSD cards as well. For a main display, there is a 320 x 240, 2.4 inch, 65,536 color TFT LCD screen. The subdisplay is a 1 inch STN LCD display.

Also, Square Enix's popular RPG, "Final Fantasy" iAppli version comes preloaded.

This phone can also use "Picture Chat" which allows users to access the camera function, take a picture, and send it to the person o­n the other end of the line. Still images will be sent as file attachments in mail.

The continuous talk time is 150 minutes, and continuous idle time is 350 hours. The size is 104 x 50 x 24 (H x W x T), and it weighs 124g. There are three body colors: Black & Clear White, Silver & Stripe Red, and finally Silver & Black.

The release date of the 29th applies to five areas: Kanto/West Japan, Toukai, Kansai, Chuugoku, and Kyuushuu. Hokkaido, Touhoku, Hokuriku, and Shikoku will begin sale o­n March 3rd.

For those of you wondering why they're making such a big deal of having new covers, keep in mind that this is relatively new concept to Japan.
Unlike here in the USA, Nokia has a VERY small market share of phones in Japan. Since Nokia is really the o­nly company I can think of that made the interchangeable jackets thing a big fad, it o­nly makes sense that it's being marketed as a "cool new feature" by other companies in Japan now.
