In the "classical" wine glass shape, AudioTechnica makes speaker/digital amp set. Strange illumination, reflective sound.

AudioTechnica plans to debut their "AT-DSP300" speakers o­n September 21st. The speakers are 2 channel wine glass speakers with a digital amp included in the set. Though "Open Price", the speakers are expected to go for around 25,000 yen. Both white (WH) and black (BK) models of the speakers will be available.

The speakers are clearly intended to be connected with a portable MD/CD player. AudioTechnica has said "We hope you will be able to enjoy the deepness of your music as you enjoy the aroma of your wine," in regards to the wine-shape of the speaker enclosures.

The enclosures have a vase-like shape, with a port opening at the top.  The unit is equipped with a 28mm full range aperture. When opened at a 45 degree angle, the sound waves bounce off the reflector.

The reflector also features illumination. On the black model, the illumination is blue in color, while the white model's illumination is green. The reflector can be opened and closed.

Speaker cords come directly from the amplifier, using a proprietary 4 prong plug. The impedence is 4 ohms, with a rating of 1W. The speakers are 55mm in diameter, and have a height of 178.6mm. o­ne speaker weighs 245g with the cord.

The amplifier is a BTL type digital powered amp. The maximum output is 1,100mW x 2ch. In addition to a power switch, it also has dials for volume and illumination adjustment.

Input is via an analog mini stereo plug. Output is via the proprietary 4 prong plug, with left and right channels. Power is from an AC adapter. The external dimensions of the amplifier are 57.2mm x 88mm (D x H). It weighs 115g including the cord.
