Pioneer is set to put out a CD case that holds 6 CDs, with built in (passive) stereo speakers. This would be good for people who don't feel like carrying around headphones, but also have a few CDs to transport.
It's plastic, and looks like a typical CD case. But when you take out the CDs at the end, gee whiz, some speakers.
Pioneer Corporation will release a CD file case with built-in stereo speakers, the "PCR-CF10-W," in the first part of March. Althought it is officially listed as Open Price, indicators suggest it will cost around 3,000 yen.
This "CD File Speaker" has passive type stereo speakers at each end of the CD file case. This is the industry's first product of this sort.
The main body furnishes as stereo mini plug input port, for connection to the headphone ports on portable CD players and other audio products. The file section can hold 6 CDs. However, when actually inserting all 6 CDs, the left and right speakers will be covered by the CDs at the end.
The speaker unit has a 57mm diameter, with an impedence of 8 ohms. The maximum input is 2W. The cord length is 0.7m, and the main body weighs 300g.
