Mobile Phones: DoCoMo announces first HSDPA handset, N902iX HIGH-SPEED

Inside you'll find details on NTT DoCoMo's first phone supporting HSDPA, the "N902iX HIGH-SPEED."
NEC is throwing down their latest for NTT DoCoMo, the "N902iX HIGH-SPEED." It's the first phone for the company to support HSDPA, a communication system tht is meant to expand on the capabilities offered by W-CDMA. This FOMA handset will also be the first to support DoCoMo's new music download service with support for HSDPA, "Music Channel," set to launch in tandem on the 31st of August.
HSDPA allows download speeds as high as 3.6Mbps with this particular handset. DoCoMo plans to have the 23 wards of Tokyo covered with HSDPA service by the time this handset launches, and they will have most major cities covered by the end of October. They are furthermore shooting for a national population coverage of 70% by the end of this year. When you're not in an HSDPA service area, you'll be able to use conventional FOMA service, offering a download speed of 384kbps.
The handset contains a player capable of seamlessly playing audio that is in either the SD-Audio format of Chaku Uta Full format. "Music Channel" is a service that will be broadcasted by music channels late at night. The package contains stereo earphones, and the maximum download size for iMotion has been expanded to 5MB.
Other features of the handset include a miniSD card slot, 2.5" TFT LCD with 240 x 345 pixels, 4MP camera with autofocus, and an idle time of 560 hours.
