Kenwood has a new desktop audio system intended to be connected for portable audio players. "Hi-Fi" sounds familiar, but oh well.
On March 20th, Kenwood announced the "Desktop Hi-Fi Audio System," intended to be used with portable audio devices and PCs. There are two products in the lineup: the "KA-S10" integrated amplifier, and the "LS-S10" speaker system. Release is scheduled before the end of the month at Open Price. Estimates put the KA-S10 around 20,000 yen, and the LS-S10 around 15,000 yen.
The KA-S10 is an integrated amplifier that features a 12 watt + 12 watt (JEITA 8 ohms) amplifier. It has three audio input jacks, so it can connect to multiple devices such as portable audio players or PCs. one of these jacks (D.AUDIO) is intended for use with portable devices with low volume levels -- it has an increased input sensitivity.
The case has been hardened with things like using a 3.5mm thick aluminum-laced wood on the front panel. The power supply uses a large capacity condenser and a power transistor with a copper short band that reduces magnetic fluctuation leakage. These allow for a more stable operation. The unit also contains an "N.B. Circuit" that allows for adjusting the frequency zone and amplification amount to match the placement and size of speakers.
The size is 171 x 67 x 207mm (W x H x D). Using the included stand, it can also be placed vertically. When vertical, the size including the stand is 89 x 182 x 207mm (W x H x D). The weight is 2kg. The speaker connector is a large-style screw jack that accepts banana plugs, and to prevent transmission loss, the input and output jacks are gold plated.
The LS-S10 is a 2-way 2-speaker/bass reflex style anti-magnetic speaker system. Each speaker consists of a woofer unit (80mm diameter) that uses a multilayer coating material to supress unwanted vibration and square voice coil with a high magnetic flux density, as well as a soft dome tweeter (18mm diameter) that allows for the playback of frequencies as high as 100kHz. MDF wood is used on the buffle and cabinet, enabling a natural sound field with low resonance.
The size is 102 x 180 x 154mm (W x H x D), and the weight 1.7kg. The speakers connect to a speaker jack with a gold plated banana plug.
