Hey, three cool DivX products from a Japanese company you've never heard of.
Doesn't that just make your day better?
There's a PCI DivX encoding board, DivX "Video End Point" for direct network access to DivX files, and a DVD player which plays back DivX files.
The cool part about the last two is that they also support XviD.

DivX transcoding PCI card

NEXX Corporation will release the "NXCD-750R" realtime DivX transcoder in the 2nd week of March. The product is listed as Open Price, but should cost around 17,800 yen.

The transcoder card is inserted in a PC's PCI slot, and can convert MPEG-2 format files to DivX realtime. TV tuner or other input terminals are not featured.

Supported input formats are MPEG-1/2. Output is DivX, and using the included software, resolution, bitrate, and audio output format can all be selected to transcode to DivX at the same speed of the playback. The encoding chip used is VWeb's "VW2010."

Output resolutions are 720x480, 704x480, 640x480, 528x480, 480x480, 352x480, 352x240, and 176x144. Supported output bitrates are 100kbps - 12Mbps, and the selectable audio formats are MPEG-1 Layer1, MPEG-1 Layer2, and AC3.

The name of the software to be included has not yet been finalized, but the supported OSs will be Windows 2000 and XP. Unfortunately, when the product goes on sale, users will not be able to specify a DivX profile for file output - they will only be able to select resolution, bitrate, and audio format.

Nexx has said that the NXCD-750R is "the first hardware DivX encoding transcoding card," which offers speeds 2-10 times faster than current software encoding solutions.

In tests, the card took half the time to encode a 720x480 dot, 2Mbps DivX file as a Pentium 4 3.06GHz/1GB memory computer running a software encoder.

Since the NXCD-750R is not equipped with a TV tuner or external inputs, it takes existing MPEG files and converts them to DivX. As for releasing a unit with a TV tuner and external inputs, Nexx has said "we're looking into it."

Nexx Video End Point

The NEV-700T will be released in the third week of March, for a price of about 22,800 yen. It connects to a computer via ethernet connection, and can output video, audio, and still images to TV and audio equipment. Supported OSs are Windows 98, SE, Me, 2000, and XP. Supported video formats are MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, and audio formats WAVE, WMA, MP3, AC3, and OGG Vorbis. For still images, JPEG, BMP, GIF, and PNG are supported.

The most exceptional characteristic about this unit is the ability to connect a HD or media reader to the front USB port and read media files directly off it. So, in other words, video files and such can be played without the use of a computer.

Also, using the included PC Card slot, wireless LAN environments can be utilized. An internet radio function is also onboard.

Apart from Ethernet and USB 1.1 interfaces, there is Component, S-Video, and Composite for video output, as well as DVI. Audio outputs are Optical Digital, Coax Digital, and Analog audio (1 port each). The external dimensions are 255 x 168 x 40mm (W x D x H) and it weighs 590g.

Ethernet supporting DVD player

The NDVP-730H is an Ethernet equipped DVD player. Of course, it can be used as a normal DVD player, but the coolness factor lies in the ability to play video, audio, and still image data residing on a computer on the same network. Supported operating systems are Windows 98, SE, ME, 2000, and XP.

The player supports DVD+-RW, but not discs recorded using VR mode. Media files supported are the same as listed above on the "NVEP-700T," and it also has the same capabilities for reading files off HDs and such connected to the front USB 1.1 port.

Luckily for all of you with HDTVs, the player supports Progressive output and even 1080i upconverting. Video output ports are D4, S-Video, and Composite. There is also a DVI port. Audio output ports are Optical Digital, Coax Digital, and 2x Analog audio. The external dimensions are 430 x 255 x 55mm (W x D x H) and it weighs 2.9kg.
