Sony has successfully tested an LCD using organic transistors today. In other words, humanity will soon be replaced by armies of Sony Aibos.
Not really though. The reason these are considered "organic" is because they are made from a carbon base, as opposed to the silicon base of current transistors. More details inside.

Sony presented on the 17th that they have successfully developed technology which raises the speed of electrons flowing on organic transistors. Each pixel switching is operated by an organic transistor, which was confirmed by use of a 2.5" monochrome LCD. Application of the advancement will be used for display devices.

Organic transistors are transistors that use not silicon, but organic materials (chemical compounds built from carbon). The difference between existing transistors is that these allow for the creation of printed circuity, and circuitry on bendable plastic substrates, etc.

However, when the gate length is shortened the flow of electrons slows, which makes fast switching impossible for high quality displays.

Demonstrated this time was a 2.5 inch display using organic transistor switching, which had a resolution of 160 x 120.
