Sharp has announced the Papyrus PW-9920, a new addition to their line of electronic dictionaries. It contains 63 reference sources including a number related to diet and health so is guaranteed to sell like hot-cakes to Japanese housewives.

Sharp announced the Papyrus PW-9920, a new electronic dictionary with a stylish design and sturdy construction, on January 18. It will go on sale from January 27 priced at 44,100 yen.
The PW-9920 is stylishly designed but maintains the solid construction of previous models thanks to the "New Inner Protect" system. The outer casing is made of aluminium panel while high-strength metal plating is used to protect the LCD panel from external pressure or force.
The 63 installed content sources are closely related to daily life and include Kojien (5th ed.), Genius E-J/J-E dictionary and Mypedia encyclopedic dictionary. In particular, health-related contents have been strengthened to include items such as the "NHK Diet Brain" dictionary that summarises current knowledge about diet and health.
Various useful functions are provided including "Menu Customise" to organise the contents of each menu category in a desired order, "W Search" to conduct another search while preserving the previous search results and "QuickLook" to make it easier to view results by displaying only the main definitions and omitting example sentences etc.
The dictionary is 141 x 107 x 16 mm in size and weighs approximately 260 grams (including battery). It has a 320x240 5.4" FSTN LCD screen that can display a maximum of 32 characters x 18 lines (using a 9pt font). Power is supplied by 2 AAA batteries.
